چکیده

The Genomic Misconception of Transgenesis is a major source of erroneous decisions in the regulation of GM crops. The difference between GMand non-GM-crops on the level of molecular processes has been overestimated. These misunderstandings grew due of politically motivated fear-mongering. In the wake of molecular breeding, the uncontested understanding among many scientists and in particular for people working in the risk assessment community was that GM crops pose by principle some novel risks, unprecedented compared to conventionally bred crops. This view has then unfortunately been taken up in the United Nations Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety without scientific scrutiny, this needs to be questioned in certain basic aspects. In the 15 years of worldwide commercialization GM crops have proven save, even safer than conventional crops. Many leading researchers like Nobel Laureate Werner Arber, based on detailed molecular insights and on his own innovative experience in genetic engineering claim that related to molecular processes there is no difference between genetically engineered and natural mutation. The United States and Canada are contradicting clearly the European and unfortunately also the view of UN agencies. But this transatlantic divide is artificial and built on political views rather than scientific knowledge. The dividing views could be solved with some more innovative regulatory proceedings. The Cartagena Protocol risk assessment concept needs to be amended in the view of basic scientific molecular biology insights, also confirmed in the last years again with genomic analysis of transcriptomic facts. Economic impacts of policies affecting crop biotechnology and trade.

Agricultural biotechnologies, and especially transgenic crops, have the potential to boost food security in developing countries by offering higher incomes for farmers and lower priced and better quality food for consumers. That potential is being heavily compromised, however, because the European Union and some other countries have implemented strict regulatory systems to govern their producti...

An Overview of Challenges in Producing and Consuming Transgenic Products

The production and consumption of genetically modified (GM) products are highly controversial due to their environmental, health, and ethical impacts. Most of these disputes are caused by distrust of regulatory authorities, scientists, and technocratic decisions. Among all these concerns, health issues, allergenicity and antibiotic resistance are more important. Many of today's social developme...

Fishing lantern trawl; Environmental, social and economic aspects of the Oman Sea

Lanternfish is one of the most important and aquatic reserves in the Oman Sea. After the cessation of the fish lantern fishing project provided by foreign vessels owned by Iranian companies by the Iranian Fisheries Organization, the impact of the activity of foreign vessels on aquatic resources should be considered for reasons other than those envisaged in the contracts and research plans. Ligh...

The Impact of Domestic and Foreign Monetary Policy on Iran\'s economy: Global Modeling

One of the striking features of the business cycles is the patterns of co-movement of output, inflation, interest rates, and real equity prices across countries. This paper empirically examines the effects of domestic and foreign monetary policies on Iranchr('39')s macroeconomic variables (including real production, inflation, short-term interest rate, and real exchange rate) using quarterly da...

Co-existence of genetically modified crops with conventional and organic farming.

What has the co-existence of GM and non-GM crops to do with environmental biosafety? A clear distinction has to be made between the economic aspects of co-existence and the environmental and health aspects of GMOs. Nevertheless, since both the co-existence and the biosafety areas are often based on the same scientific knowledge (e.g. regarding gene flow) and EBR is interested in the socio-econo...
